About

*Please note: unfortunately I am not currently accepting new therapy clients/referrals, or operating a therapy waitlist, as my books are full (please click here for names of other affirming practitioners). However, I have got occasional availability for WPATH assessments, and I am also available for professional supervision/training. Please email me on hello@lgpsychology.net if seeking a WPATH assessment or supervision/training. Supervision can also be booked online via this link. Thank you :)

About me: Hi, I’m Lumen (they/them), a clinical psychologist & board-approved supervisor in Naarm (Melbourne). I see clients via Telehealth, meaning sessions are accessible from any location. I currently work with folks aged 18yrs+ regarding a range of experiences surrounding identity, neurotype, life transitions, and connection with self, body, others, and place in the world. I recognise that psychology, psychiatry, and medicine have a long – and ongoing – history of pathologising and harming marginalised folk, and am committed to working in ways that resist and redress these harms. I’m also queer, trans, multiply neurodivergent, and chronically ill person myself, and aspire to provide a safe space for all identities, genders, neurotypes, and bodies.

Areas of work: My areas of expertise include working with LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent (especially ADHD, Autistic, PDA, 2e), chronically ill, disabled, and otherwise marginalised folk, identity/self-view, eating (disorders, differences, and/or difficulties), life changes or transitions, and burnout, alongside mood, stress, anxiety, and general wellbeing.

The services I offer are include:

  • Psychological counselling/therapy

  • WPATH assessment completion

  • ADHD & Autism assessment completion

  • Supervision, consultation, and training for other health professionals and educators (topics of gender, sexuality, neurodivergence, chronic health, disability, and/or eating disorders, differences, and difficulties, and their intersections

Therapy approach: My therapeutic style is patient, collaborative, warm, and person-centred, with good humour (/being a bit silly when that’s the vibe) along the way. Accessibility, safety, stimming, and identity unmasking in the ways that feel aligned and affirming for you are welcome; I’ll always endeavour to provide a space where your needs and comfort are supported.

I take a holistic approach to support folks to understand their emotions, thoughts, experiences, values, strengths, and needs, and relationships; build skills for and navigate challenges they are facing (while recognising sociopolitical, capitalistic, and systemic impacts); develop greater self-acceptance and insight; move towards their goals; or just talk things out.

Image description: Lumen is pictured from mid-torso up. They are in a park, wearing noise-cancelling headphones, a pink shirt, grey backpack, and their Hidden Disabilities sunflower lanyard. Their hair is medium brown, in a shaggy mullet cut with a fringe. They have pink eyeliner, a silver septum piercing, a black choker necklace, and black & pink nailpolish, and are smiling while doing the peace sign, because they don’t really know how else to pose in selfies.

To do this, I draws upon therapies including Affirmative Person-Centred, Counselling, Narrative, and Values-Based approaches. I work from an intersectional, anti-oppressive, de-pathologising, identity-affirming, trauma-informed, anti-fascist, and anti-diet framework, and tailor therapy to each person I see. If this sounds like what you’re after, you’re welcome to get in touch - I look forward to hearing from you!

Position: cat tree acrobat, resident menace, & meow extraordinaire

Lumen (they/them)
Position: clinical psychologist, board-approved supervisor, & founder

Nina (she/her)
Position: sunbathing nap enthusiast, tiny bundle of excitement, & absolute angel

Image descriptions: Image 1 - Grimmeow, a domestic medium-hair cat with black fur, is sitting in a pink hammock, in a pastel pink and green cat tree. She has her paw on the edge of the hammock and is looking at something out the window to the side. Grimmeow is one of Lumen’s critters, and often features in the background of Zooms on her cat tree. Image 2 - Lumen is sitting on the floor in their home office, holding a trans flag coloured pompom. They are wearing a black ts-hirt, with metal rings stitched into the collar (a very DIY job), and chain necklace. Their hair is orange, cut short in a shaggy style; they have orange eyeliner on; and they are smiling mid-laugh. Behind them is a pastel pink bookshelf with lots of books and trinkets on it, and there is a pride flag above it. Image 3 - Nina, a papillon dog, is laying on a burnt orange couch atop a light teal blanket, playing with several soft toys (her rabbit, caterpillar, and rope toys) simultaneously. Nina’s tail is mid-wag, as she’s just pounced on her toys and is split seconds away from giving them a big shake. Nina is Lumen’s other critter companion; she also joins Zooms regularly, and likes to sit in her dog bed on Lumen’s desk when doing so.
